Description
Latest Update: At the request of a fellow ebayer, I pulled 20-30 tubes from the top few layers of an open box I have and took a picture and added it to the rest. Since there are almost 40 boxes of mixed tubes, this sample is not necessarily indicative of anything, other than the fact that they are pretty old. Lets face it - you are not going to find a cache of WE300B tubes hidden in one of these boxes. But for someone who can sort and warehouse these tubes, over a couple of years you should make a nice profit selling them through the internet. They don't make them anymore - when they're gone they're gone. I took money out of mutual funds a few months ago to buy these, and if I can simply get my investment back (or come close), at this point in time I will have done better than if I had left the money in the stock market.UPDATE: I have had several requests for more pictures, so I opened 2 more of the boxes and added these pictures as well as a picture of the 2 testers. When I purchased these I paid extra to have everything well packed for shipping to avoid breakage. As you can see, my request was well met, and I really do not want to disturb the other boxes, so they can be shipped quickly and easily. Here is an opportunity to start your own business (or expand your current one) selling vintage vacuum tubes. These are all old stock, virtually all made in the USA or Europe. Look at my feedback – in almost 10 years on ebay I have never had a single negative piece of feedback. Several months ago, I quit my job ( I am in my 60s and it just was becoming too exhausting) and was looking for a way to make some money working from home. I purchased these from a man (also an ebayer with excellent feedback) whose father had begun collecting in the late 30’s. Despite being an avid audiophile, I know very little about vintage tubes, so I can only tell you what he said regarding this collection. He said he shipped me over 50,000 tubes (which I cannot verify - way too many to count) - the total gross weight of the shipments was over 1500 lbs. This includes 2 small testers he sent that I will send if the buyer wishes. I didn't try them out and, frankly, they might not be worth the shipping costs. About 35-40 % are new old stock and the rest are used, but tested good. I tested about a hundred and found only a couple of bad ones, and even then, they might have been OK – I am using a Hickok 539C I just purchased and sometimes I am unsure of how to use it. According to the seller this collection contains over 1000 12Volt amplifier triodes, 100’s of 12A series tubes, over 4000 of the 6 volt 6A and 6B series, a “bunch” of 6SN7 and 5U4 tubes, 1000s of beam and power tubes, some nice 4/5 pin tubes, some microphone tubes and some 1 volt tubes. I have only opened and gone through one of the smaller boxes and have opened, but not gone through, one of the larger ones. The rest are all sealed as when I received them. I believe there is a total of 39 boxes. I am listing these because sorting and testing them is much more time consuming than I anticipated and I cannot devote the time necessary – I have a part-time job now with another pending. I have no idea which tubes are worth what, much less what a “side getter” is. While I have a space to store them in bulk, I do not have the space available to sort and store them in numerical order. For someone who is knowledgeable about tubes (or wants to commit to learning) this is an excellent deal and should be very profitable. My opening price represents a loss for me, but I think they will do better than the stock market in the next couple of years, so if there are no bids I will keep them as an investment. Please contact me with any questions, but don’t ask for a list of the tubes – I don’t know what I have. If you want to come to Shreveport and take a look, that is easily arranged. These tubes are all well packed and ready for immediate shipping, although I will delay shipping until the bank verifies that a bank check has cleared (No paypal on this item - too expensive). I estimate it would be less than $1K to ship them all anywhere in the US. I have an account with DHL and prefer to use them, but will use whomever the buyer wishes, since he is paying. You can, of course, pick them up here in Shreveport, Louisiana once payment has been confirmed. You may also call me at 318-402-1655.In response to a question I received, there is no guarantee as to quantity or types of tubes, nor % of NOS vs used. All I can promise is that the gross weight of the boxed tubes is right at 1500 lbs (this includes the 2 testers - about 30 lbs). This figure is derived by adding up the UPS listed weight on each of the boxes as they were shipped to me. Will consider an original, pristine pair of JBL Hartsfields in trade (I can dream, can't I).
