Abbington Music Research AMR CD-77 cd player SOTA one box player that absolutely renewed my 1500 cd collection. The best that I have ever owned ( previous best's for me were Naim & Audio Aero ) It's ease of presentation and detail retrieval with tone perfect note portraial; places it in the upper tier of cd systems at any price point. This was a dealer demo unit from 2007. Although you would never know by it's looks or sound, Fedex did mishandle it. It looked perfect and seemed to play perfectly after this happened but then begain to not read the occaisional disc. So that is when I sent it to the distributer to look it over and they saw that the stention (sp?) supports for the transport were slightly bent. they replaced those and at the same time updated it to the lasted digital drive and swapped out the Mundorf caps for Audyn caps, so that it is exactly like the units that the factory ships now in 2008. In addition to being arguably the worlds finest 1 box cd player (read the reviews; it was compared to the Audio Research CD-7 and a $25k+ Zandan system) it also features 6 different operation modes that are adustable, on the fly, from the remote, while the music is playing. I would say that i used the: Direct Master II; no digital filter; 90% of the time but used the other setings on 60's rock and roll and 50's jazz cd's, which enhanced the soundstage portrayal. It also has USB connect, so that you can filter your online radio or hard drive music from your computer thru the DAC section. It is in 100% functional condition and other than a very slight nick on the rear top edge the cosmetics are excellent. (You need a magnifing glass to see the nick, it is so small) There are 2 things I need to mention; the small battery cover plate on the remote is missing 1 of the 4 tiny screws. The cover does stay in place and the remote functions perfect. Also when closing the cd chamber door, if I slide the door close 100%, so that it touches front boundry, the display reads that the door is open. So I have to stop just short of the front boundry (about 1/16 or 1/8"). From an outward appearance the door looks completely closed and the cd chamber is completely sealed and the cd plays perfectly, every time. I spoke with the AMR Technician and he said this is a very easy adjustment. It isn't an issue for me so I never had it done. I can email photo's of these very minor issues.Email with any questions or for more photo's. I know it can be daunting to buy used high end gear online, but as you'll read thru my 100% feedback here on ebay & on AA (theromium), & Audiogon (ludimagis); you will see that I have sold several high end pieces, am brutally honest and pack very securely. This is a wonderfully articulate and real to life player and has performed perfectly every day since the repair and update. If I wasn't in a financial bind, this is 1 piece that I wouldn't part with! From what I can tell, the packed weight is approximately 130 lbs. This is too much for postal air mail. That leaves Fedex, UPS, DHL and frieght companies. ALSO: Internatioal buyers There is no conversion needed, just plug in the CD-77 and the OptiMains circuitry takes care of all else. AMR’s equipment operates optimally from 90V-130V AC and 180V-260V AC at 50 or 60Hz without any modification. I will allow a discount of $100 for anyone that pays by bank money order!
